The downtime at work has allowed me to get a bunch of reading done, so I'm working through the various unfinished e-books (yay, online Kindle reader!). I don't remember who recommended Ken Liu's The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories but two of them have made me tear up already. Yesterday I finished Ted Chiang's collection that "Story of Your Life" is in (the story Arrival is based on) - I'd started with that story and read to the end from there, and so still had three or four stories in the beginning to read.

Monday I read Vanessa Hua's Deceit and Other Possibilities, clearly my trend so far this year is short stories and non-white authors. I feel good about this trend.

Note: There are stories that directly reference Chinese prisoner torture in Paper Menagerie that are difficult and painful to read, so if you cannot deal with reading those, definitely skip "The Man Who Ended History (A Documentary)".
