FFFX 2021: Nice Guys, Karate Kid/Cobra Kai, OUATIH, GenKill, Venom, crossovers

General likes: food as a metaphor for love, hurt/comfort, people being sweet to each other, people taking care of each other, daddykink if you want to go there (even just a little), people being good at their jobs, people buying other people presents (like fancy clothes, that they then help the other person get dressed in), space AUs (sentient spaceships yes please), AUs where people are scientists (marine biologists, Arctic researchers, that sort of thing) or archaeologists.

Gen, het, slash, I am pretty much open to anything, and any rating, so don't feel like you need to write something NC-17 or a genre that's that's not what you are comfortable writing. The only AUs I'm not really into reading are the high school AU and A/B/O universes.

Hard DNWs: kinks involving bathroom functions, super-angsty infidelity issues, extreme violence (canon-typical violence is fine), misogynistic violence against women, things relating to COVID-19, and I'd prefer no character death unless it's already in canon.

I am always down for: "oh no is this an accidental soulbond? damn it!", "uhhh, did we get married last night?", "ps, I'm a werewolf/have wings/can shapeshift into a shark" - and what the characters do about it. I'm also a fan of unconventional endings, so that accidental soulbond doesn't have to end happily, or if characters get purposefully divorced after their accidental marriage, that's cool with me.

I like 3x and 5x stories that fit together to make a whole, choose your own adventure, alternating POVs especially if the characters have slightly different ideas about what's happening and that leads to some form of conflict, time loops, complete universe resets (like in Kraken).

If you want to write 5k or 10k of "uhh what do you mean we're having a baby?" mpreg, I would read it.

Note: I'm not a fan of killing characters to end their storylines, so please none of that. If there's a canonical character death you want other characters to have to deal with, that sort of thing is totally fine, but I would not like a story where a woman dies to motivate a man (that thing they do in movies all the time… I hate it. I outright yelled at a man taking opinions at a preview screening once about this and he looked at me as though it wasn't anything he'd ever thought of before.) unless you want to take that happening in canon and then reverse it through some sort of time-warp shenanigans.

Fandom-specific prompts/notes/thoughts:

The Nice Guys:

I'm so pleased someone nominated this delightfully wacky found family shenanigans masterpiece!!! HOLLY HAS TWO DADS: The Detective Movie. Possible ideas:
- March and Healy solve a case for someone who gives them an RV as payment, and they proceed to take Holly on a Giant Summer Vacation Road Trip, which she may or may not be enthused about, and along the way Jack and Holland figure out their relationship stuff.
- Healy builds them a house (descriptions of house-building/house remodeling are very welcome). "You built us a house?" March asks, and then he probably cries, and then realizes he's in love with Jack. It usually takes some sort of over the top wild gesture for March to realize he's in love.
- Five times March didn't notice Healy was trying to woo him, and one time he did (and/or Holly just flat-out tells him).
- Five times Healy didn't notice March was trying to woo him, and one time he did (and/or Holly just flat-out tells him).
- Case fic: March and Healy get involved in something they think could be supernatural/werewolves/vampires. Whether or not it's really supernatural is up to you!

The Karate Kid / Cobra Kai:

Somehow I got really into Cobra Kai as a way to ignore the terrible state of the world, and watched all the Macchio movies as well.
- possible Ali/Daniel/Johnny idea: If pre-tournament - Ali has a plan, and that is she will date both Daniel and Johnny (for some set length of time), but this is Johnny's last chance and he better not screw it up. And sometimes her date ideas mean the three of them all go to the movies and everyone's hands tangle in the popcorn. (The karate rivalry part probably stays the same?) If post-tournament - Johnny probably apologizes for being an asshole and asks her if she'll go out with him again and she says "No, but you can come out with me and Daniel," and Johnny actually sets all his bad feelings aside and takes her up on the offer.
- Daniel/Johnny in the 80's: I would love some sort of trope fic. Soulbond, writing on skin, something where fate wants them to be together and they're all "oh no but this is my enemy" about it. (He's not your enemy, you idiot, you're just dumbass teenagers who don't know how to deal with feelings! Guess who the true villain is, boys? It's Kreese, a fucked-up adult who should know better than to manipulate teenagers [there's a lot there… you could probably get quite a bit of Johnny stuff out of him dealing with Kreese things sooner than he does in canon.])
- as adults: I would enjoy your take on what could be happening in S4, or a trope-y version of anything that happened in a previous season, Amanda being like "just invite your stupid karate rival to bed, would you?" at any point, Daniel giving Johnny some sort of job at one of the dealerships and Johnny either being astoundingly competent at whatever it is that Daniel actually finds him attractive OR Johnny being so bad that it almost turns into being good when he manages to accidentally talk someone into buying a (very expensive) car, any sort of take on "oh no we've had a soulbond for thirty years and we've ignored it but now you're helping repair my house after the teenage karate war basically destroyed it and I can't ignore it any longer, etc".
- Love Johnny being a competent handyman stuff, would read any and all AUs where he does something like making fancy furniture (or refurbishing old furniture into something new/unique) and selling it to rich people and that's how he and Daniel meet each other again.
- I love Amanda so please keep things amicable between her and Daniel if the story you are writing means ending their relationship. I want her and Carmen to be friends so that they have female friends - but I also want them to kiss! Maybe she and Carmen have "what is wrong with these morons?" girls' nights where they drink a lot of wine and give each other spa treatments and it's late so Carmen stays over, and then eventually they make out. (And maybe go shopping together and kiss some more in the dressing rooms, feeling like teenagers again.)
- I understand the show's need for The Teens but I am not as into their storylines except for Moon! What's her POV for the events of the show? We know how/why she breaks up with Hawk, but how does she get together with Piper?

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood:

- Into: friends with benefits, soulbond, backstory - maybe tell me about their slightly more wild days doing Bounty Law?, roadtripping up/down the coast, the idea that Cliff did kill his wife* (whether accidentally or not) and Rick knows/helped him cover it up, Cliff acting as caretaker during a period where Rick is basically self-medicating his mental illness with alcohol and it making him think about and/or confront what he did in the war (or any of the other violent parts of his life if you want to use things from the novel) and the effect it had on him.
- Also into the non-romantic versions of any of the above, really, if you want to write a story where the focus is more on Cliff & Rick's friendship than Cliff/Rick. And vague UST or something where they're gentle and touchy with each other but it isn't going to lead to actually hooking up is also fine by me.
- Note re: Francesca - although she's not in the tagset I don't mind her inclusion at all! I'm down with the OT3 whether in Italy or back in LA, poly things like Francesca understanding right from the start that Cliff and Rick have ~a thing~ that she's okay with them still continuing, the three of them hanging out with Sharon and the baby or just hanging out with Brandy.

* w/r/t this request vs my DNWs - I know we know the real answer now thanks to the novel but you can 100% ignore the novel for any of these ideas. Please keep the actual death off-screen if you go this route.

Fandom-specific things I would not care for: completely ignoring Francesca if the story is set in a time when she would have been part of Rick's life and/or giving them a shitty breakup (handwaving an amicable parting is fine), Roman Polanski appearing as an actual character (mentioning him for whatever reason is fine).

Generation Kill:

- I would love any of the AUs above for any of the pairings, either in a "Nate/Ray/Mike got out of the Corps and took this career path" sort of way, or a "Nate/Ray/Mike never joined the Corps and did this instead" way. Brad I can't see as anything other than a Marine, but something set after his retirement is cool. I'd also be interested in any sort of quasi-AU set in Iraq, where the platoon unearths some ancient curse or awakens an ancient monster, anything like that - if you'd like to go this route and would rather focus on an ancient curse/monster plot than on the pairing, doing a more UST-y thing is fine with me.
- I will always, always love fic where Brad is the weirdo he is. Brad the former Marine, now deep-sea diver / the treasure hunter / the Bermuda Triangle researcher who is terrified of the ocean and thus fascinated by it? Into it. (I think about the Brad the Treasure Hunter idea a lot, tbh. Like a Fool's Gold AU - that movie with Kate Hudson & Matthew McConaughey.)
- I think I would also really enjoy some sort of Knight & Day (with Tom Cruise & Cameron Diaz) AU with GK characters. Basically: Is it a goofy 00's action rom-com? I would enjoy a GK version.

Venom:

- I love both Eddie/Venom and the OT4 (I'm very happy that it at least looks like Anne and Dan aren't breaking up in the new movie; please don't do that, Sony!) so either of those or one moving into the other work for me.
- I like stories where: Eddie gives pleasure to subby goo Venom, Eddie and symbiote work to find the symbiote some hobbies, they have to try a lot of various foods to find things the symbiote likes/can eat/wants to eat, having the symbiote changes Eddie in small but physical ways and they really reach a "together we are Venom" point (mild body horror is fine for this fandom as long as it's mostly consensual).
- Eddie's writing a series of articles and he and Venom have to road trip (Anne & Dan could also go along, or go along for part of the trip!) for research, or Eddie and Venom start out working on following someone as research for an article but end up taking down an entire crime syndicate as The Monster of San Francisco.
- Eddie, the symbiote, Anne, and Dan all go on vacation together. Venom does not understand vacation.
- re: NSFW things, I'm not as into the "Venom forms human male-style genitalia and bones Eddie" sort. I am also not here for "Eddie unable to manage his clinical depression" stories, but including a mental illness he is managing is fine if that's an Eddie characterization thing you like to include.
- I like Venom POV fics, the weirder the better, or alternating POV. References to comics happenings or other symbiotes is great.

Crossovers: Okay so usually I don't go in for wacky crossovers but I thought maybe this time there was plenty of room to go wild.

Jason Bourne (Bourne movies)/Christian Wolff (The Accountant) - Maybe a Mr. & Mrs. Smith type plot? Or they meet in some sort of support group? (Feel free to ignore the most recent Bourne movie if you also hated it - it's the movie I referenced in my general section above where I yelled at the man taking opinions afterward.) Appearances by any other characters from the movies are welcome!

Brad Colbert (Generation Kill)/Tom 'Redfly' Davis (Triple Frontier) - Another one where they could meet in some sort of post-service military support group? And the events of Triple Frontier have not happened, ha. Redfly's gotten divorced, so they start meeting up outside of the support group as friends for beers, and and Redfly starts helping Brad fix up the old cabin he bought in the middle of nowhere (or is building in the middle of nowhere). Appearances by any other GK folks or TF characters are welcome. I would also enjoy a re-work of TF that includes Brad as part of the team and doesn't include any character death (unless you want to do some sort of time-loop shenanigans in there).

Brad Colbert (Generation Kill)/James 'Bucky' Barnes (MCU) - a sad Bucky somehow arrives at the door of Brad's cabin in the middle of nowhere! (Apocalypse AU version is welcome here.)

Will Hunting (Good Will Hunting)/Doug MacRay (The Town) - So Doug's background is that he was good enough at hockey to get drafted by the Wild, but he fucked it up somewhere along the way and never got to the NHL. How about an AU where he did, and ends up traded to a team where he could meet Will at an event or a bar, etc? Or he remains an AHL journeyman, and Will's the Moneyball-style stats guy? Alternately, there's no hockey and they're both Boston kids and Doug still robs banks, but it's Will instead of Claire.

Larry Gigli (Gigli)/Linus Caldwell (Ocean's 11) - So I at first thought about this as a way to make myself laugh, but then I actually really liked the idea of dumbass Larry and socially clueless Linus bopping around Las Vegas together!! (Or Chicago, but I feel like Vegas has way more casino shenanigans available.) And I never felt like Gigli was quite as bad as it got made out to be - I always wondered what sort of movie they really thought they were making before the studio interfered. Maybe Linus pickpockets Larry but gets caught at it, and that's what starts things, and eventually they're running all sorts of little scams together. Appearances by any other characters from the movies are welcome!
