I have not felt like writing basically since Yuletide ended, which is sad for me and sad for the Venom Valentine's Day things I did want to do. This happens every year at this time - a variant on seasonal depression, I'm sure - and it'll be better in a month or two when the sun is out and it's not freezing but: ugh.

My aunt sent me $20 in a Valentine's Day card which was lovely of her but also sort of funny, as I am forty years old. But she never had any children and her life is entirely doing the things her husband wants to do, which is so wild to me but I guess works for them. We went out to eat for my birthday last summer since they live in Arizona in the winter but are here in the summer, and she let on that she's never even had her own credit card. Again: wild.

I am slowly trying out things in the fancy KitchenAid stand mixer I got last year in a holiday sale. My first loaf of "easy sandwich" bread was a fail, as I over-proofed, but the second and third tries were good. The meringue attempt worked out - I mostly just wanted to see if it could be accomplished with egg whites from a carton, and it works - and I successfully whipped cream for cake. We had birthday dinner for my dad tonight so I made chocolate wacky cake (the one where you use vinegar and no eggs) with a topping of whipped cream, crumbled meringue since I was never going to eat them all, and shaved chocolate - quite delicious. My dad's only note was that he wished there was more of the frosting. I should probably figure out some things to use the mixer for that aren't just desserts, but I will definitely make the bread again. This weekend I'm going to attempt the America's Test Kitchen test recipe for the month (pretzels) so I won't put the mixer away quite yet.

Adulthood score: I got a larger recycling bin and I'm very excited! Condo residents are only issued the smaller version and I finally got tired of taking cardboard to the grocery store drop-off, not to mention constantly being behind in recycling in the winter if there's a week I have to skip it due to shitty weather. Theoretically I COULD just put some of it in the trash but I am too brainwashed into recycling and cannot bring myself to even put the stupid Pennysaver in the trash bin. Speaking of: why is there no way to get off the mailing list for the Pennysaver? I don't use it and I don't want to get it, but calling the local distributor didn't do anything.

ETA: omg I forgot to say - I did indeed watch all of Teen Wolf. And now I am... watching Teen Wolf again. I feel like I might want to write fic? I have several ideas but that's as far as I've gotten. :-/
