A trip to the ~New Age~ store on Friday after my dad and I retrieved my sister from her summer camp reminded me of my love of shiny sparkly rocks, and while I bought a few things at the store, the prices were a little too steep to obtain many shiny sparkly rocks. (I used to have a nice-sized rock collection when I was a teenager, but most were lost when we cleaned out the old house when my dad sold it - I did save a few things and they're scattered throughout my house, sorry to whomever has to organize when I die.) Then I remembered eBay exists! So I spent most of the weekend bidding on many sparkly things, and losing about 90% of the auctions I entered - mostly because I only bid a couple bucks on most of them, so everything else I'm still bidding on I fully expect not to win in the end. And let's be real, I'm sure I'll forget like half of what I did win, and will be surprised when packages start arriving in a few weeks. I think I might move some of the Funkos I have in the living room (a few of the Clone Wars ones) into the Funko display I have in the bedroom, weeding out some of the SW:ST ones while I'm at it, then put the rocks on the living room shelf.

I had four straight days off work, which might be the longest stretch I've been out of the office since I did a Friday/Monday off in March. We still only have two student workers and both of them usually have other work/responsibilities during the week. Next Tuesday I'm taking my sister to the Museum of Science & Industry for the day, so I'm off then, too. I bought a membership earlier this year but haven't gone yet. Hopefully traffic shouldn't be too wild getting to Chicago.

Oh, fandom5k!! I wrote:
robot chicken vs celebrity bear, Clerks/Clerks II/Askewniverse: Dante/Randal, small children, convenience store shenanigans, vague mid-life crises
something left of us, IT Chapter 2: Bill/Mike, post-movie California, finding comfort in each other

I did find it very funny to realize that twenty+ years after seeing Clerks for the first time, I managed to write the longest Dante/Randal on AO3.

Fandom5k story has been turned in! I will probably do at least one more read-through before reveals, since there's a large gap between due date and reveals. Reveals this year are NOT on my birthday, for once! Speaking of, I am turning forty in two weeks, and since my dad and I were already going to a baseball game that day, I sent an email to my co-workers saying that's what we were doing if anyone else wanted to attend the game. I just hope it's not a bazillion degrees out!

Our second shift dispatcher had a sudden family emergency this week & one of our two part-timers is out of town, so today I worked my fifth twelve-hour shift in a row and I still have to work another eight hours tomorrow. On the plus side, this will pay for the ridiculous Jonas Brothers tickets I bought my sister and myself last week. I was actually going to skip this tour but she saw a commercial and asked if we could go. And I don't go to a million concerts a year like I used to, so might as well get good seats and watch my sister have a good time, especially after this last year. It does count as her birthday present for sure, though.

I have gained a whole bunch of AO3 subscribers who I believe are here for Venom things, apologies to these folks since it might be a bit before I go back to that fandom. I'm pretty sure I will! But not for the next couple months, at least. I worked a little on some of my Cobra Kai WIPs this week but have mostly been reading actual books for the last month or so. I figured out how to check out library books to the Kindle cloud reader so I can read when it's slow at work and I've read more than I did all last year. My Goodreads, if anyone is interested.

After sitting down with the goal to actually finish off my fandom5k story this weekend, I have a rough draft! As always, it was one of those things where I thought "oh god can I really bash out five thousand words for a pairing/fandom I've never written before?" (other than a random 600 words of a WIP I jotted down of a different pairing a few months ago), which became "okay I'm at five thousand and here's my list of scenes that still have to be finished", which turned into "finishing this particular scene is probably going to put me at 7,500" (and it did), and that was when I knew it was going to be yet another 10k-er.

Now that it's done and I need to let it sit for a while without looking at it, I can turn my attention to Cobra Kai note-taking! (I could not make my brain do exchange fandom, Venom, and CK all at the same time.) I'm a little stalled out on all my Venom WIPs so they can be on a break for a bit as well while I let my brain work out where they need to go. I watched The Karate Kid last night and realized I'd never seen the whole thing all the way through, just bits of it here and there probably when it aired on television when I was a kid. The fact that there was absolutely zero character work done for any of the villains was sort of fascinating. (Which also makes CK all the more fascinating because it does all the Johnny Lawrence character work that TKK doesn't do.)

Games for the baby baseball team we frequent start tomorrow! I don't imagine my dad and I will stay more than a few innings since it's a Tuesday night, but provided it doesn't rain, it should be nice to sit outdoors for a while with a hot dog and a beer.

TWO THOUSAND AND THREE IS BACK, Y'ALL

(...deleted image from the Jenny from the Block music video, as apparently tumblr took it down from where I'd linked it?

In other news, the Let There be Carnage trailer also dropped this morning, so it has been quite the Monday for me, the one human in the universe who cares about both Bennifer and Eddie Brock & his alien bodymate shenanigans. WHOO.

Previous readers will remember my slight apprehension re: LTBC, but it looks like it'll be fun? Honestly as long as they don't a) give Eddie a love interest who doesn't know about Venom, or b) separate Eddie and Venom permanently, it'll probably be okay. Naomie Harris is officially playing Shriek, who is also a villain symbiote, so at first I thought they were lifting some beats from Maximum Carnage - but Stephen Graham is apparently playing a guy who ends up host to the Toxin symbiote so maybe they're just mixing up a bunch of stuff and setting it all in San Francisco. I am interested to see if the filmmakers make note of Carnage being Venom's spawn, and Toxin being Carnage's spawn.

I am pretty sure the tie-in scene that'll get tacked on the end will be something Morbius-related. Although that standalone movie already has a trailer, so maybe something suggesting a crossover? It happens in the comics. (Plenty of things happen in the comics... Eddie and the symbiote canonically bang... Eddie and the symbiote have a goo baby...)

My fandom5k story is progressing... I am at 4,600 words and I think I have all the necessary scenes started/sketched out, so now it's a matter of filling in the gaps and adding in some more of the main character looking at the other main character and thinking "I could make out with them", which I do not have enough of yet (but I have skipped ahead and written the kissing, and also the ending, so I do know where it's going). I think tonight I will make a checklist with all the missing bits listed and then start crossing them off as I fill them in.
