lakeeffectgirl: (Tom & Heather)
I don't even have the words for the last week and a half of the MI:DR press tour - what can even be said, when your niche OT3 goes on a yacht trip that appears to be only the three of them en route from one premiere to another, arrives/departs from everywhere on the same plane (that the rest of the cast aren't on), goes on outings/out to dinner together at premiere stops, stands together on the balcony of what might be their shared suite in a hotel, and finally LETS GETTY TAKE THIS PICTURE ON THE RED CARPET?

Even if Tom isn't really sleeping with the McQuarries, those are his platonic life partners for sure.

ANYWAY!! Actually, I got nothin'. I need to sleep for a month to recover.

One of my discord pals yesterday was like, "Lake, are you living your best life this week?" and the answer is of course a resounding (fannish) YES!!!

McQuarries & Tom in Rome on Monday...

MI:DR1 Rome premiere. )

and McQuarries & Tom in London on Thursday...

MI:DR London premiere. )

And the yellow dress happened on MY BIRTHDAY, it was A Lot. Heather doesn't usually wear sleeveless and low-cut to premieres! But Rome was apparently quite hot.

I went with my sister to see The Flash on Monday (also Ben Affleck for my birthday!), which was better than I expected but my expectations weren't all that high to begin with. Ben gets a good Bruce Wayne scene and then the final pre-credits cameo was worth it to me. We saw it on the UltraScreen which was nice and I'm sure there were some parts that worked better in that format vs just watching it at home on my decade-old television. If anyone wants spoilers, let me know!

It snowed again last week Thursday; my power went out from 10PM that night to probably around 10AM Friday morning (I finally fell asleep at about 7AM, after telling work I obviously could not get there, and when I woke up at 11AM the power was back on). That sucked - I can't sleep when the power is out, so I basically hid in bed under a million blankets since I have electric heat.

Too many (unexpected) things have been happening in the Old Man Fandom, cut to spare you all. )

Winter has finally reached the Midwest much later than expected; two weeks ago there was a big snowstorm so the P canceled classes - it wasn't too bad driving home, and the next morning things were fairly clear. Then last week Wednesday/Thursday we got an ice storm, which knocked out power to my part of town for about eight hours. I keep my car in the garage in the winter (as any Midwesterner should) so I was trapped in my house with no heat for the morning and didn't make it in to work until a little past noon on Thursday. And two days after that everything was almost all melted again, and it rained all day Monday. WTF, February!

[personal profile] rsadelle and I have been watching Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, years after everyone else - so far they've been enjoyable! The plots are sometimes a little thin but truly isn't the point Phryne's fabulous outfits, and not plot?

We were hoping McQuarrie would show up at the Producer's Guild Awards last weekend, but MI8 filming has resumed for a few days in Italy and it sounds like Tom pretty much flew straight there after getting his fancy PGA award on Saturday night. There is a hilariously blurry cryptid picture of McQ going into their hotel, a picture of his back because he's facing away from the person taking Tom's picture, and that is all so far [sad face emoji]. But they are apparently doing aerial stuff so it's not like the Rome/Venice street filming where people were taking pictures out their apartment windows. I just need Heather McQuarrie to wear a fun dress to the Oscars, universe, surely you can provide that...

I keep opening a new entry window, thinking, "how do I even explain this Chris McQuarrie (and his hot wife) problem I've fallen into the last month," and being unable to explain. I suppose my trend of "get into semi-popular fandom, find the most niche corner imaginable, make it an OT3, and camp out there" continues. But I realized yesterday while doing my word count check-in for the week that I have written more than twenty thousand words already this month and I don't think that's ever happened to me in a January before.

January is usually a black hole of seasonal depression! I will gladly take McQ and his TWO Oscar nominations for TGM over a normal January.

This is also filling the Ben Affleck/Chris Moore-shaped hole I didn't even know was in my heart, so.

Speaking of Ben, the Nike movie is out soon-ish. This is also not anything I would normally devote any attention to, but since it's Ben directing Matt (and himself), I will definitely go.
